I'd be more comfortable with Obama if he were a proud follower of the Muslim faith than if he's a "Christian" who agrees with Rev. Wright.
Following the Democrats' race for the presidential nomination has been a rollercoaster ride. Fortunately, for the participants, it's a socialist rollercoaster, so the ups and downs are shared equally and without prejudice – the latter being until the emergence of Barack Obama's spiritual adviser and church pastor who has proven that even the liberal Democrats have a radical Wright wing.
Hillary was on the rollercoaster first. She was down, then she was up, then down again and now it's Barack Obama's turn to take a dizzying ride.
A while back, Obama was fending off accusations that he has tight connections with the Muslim faith at the least, and at most that he is actually a Muslim. As it turns out, if the answer to either one of those accusations was in the affirmative, Obama would probably be better off than he is now.
Enter Rev. Jeremiah Wright, whose anti-American, anti-white people rants at the church in which Obama is a member are distinguishable from some diatribes from that come from radical Islam only in that some of Wright's blithering yawps are a bit nuttier.

Among Wright's accusations are the tired "America created the HIV virus to kill off black people," both in the U.S. and in Africa. This is of course why, under the watch of President Bush, aid to Africa has increased into the several billion dollar range. Obviously, acknowledging a rich, white man for helping to fulfill point No. 4 of Trinity's 10-point Vision would be counterproductive to Rev. Wright's motives.
My personal favorite Rev. Wright quote is "fighting for peace is like raping for virginity." I'm still unsure what category people fighting off a rapist fall into. Wright is also on record as saying that Sept. 11 was, "America's chickens coming home to roost." One thing's for sure – if Rev. Wright ever retires, with a little grease paint and lessons in vocal projection, a new career awaits Ward Churchill.
Obama has painted himself into this corner: He fended off accusations of being Muslim by proving that he was a member of a Christian church. Then the things that are preached at that church were made public, and now Obama has to prove that, though he was a member of that church, he never attended any of the sermons – and if he did he wasn't really paying attention. This is a difficult thing to do, as the Rev. Wright married Barack and his wife and baptized their children.
Frankly, I'd be more comfortable with Obama if he were a proud follower of the Muslim faith than if he's a "Christian" who agrees with Rev. Wright, a man who hasn't been informed that Jim Crow would be very near death if he weren't being continually resuscitated by folks like … Rev. Jeremiah Wright.
So now Barack Obama has to find a way to separate himself from Wright, who blames everything from poverty to hemorrhoids on whitey. If I were Obama, I'd simply come out and say, "Why would I agree with a man who insults my mother every week," but the chances of that happening are low.
Some say, "just because you go to that church doesn't mean you agree with everything that's preached." This is true, but only to a slight degree. Let's face it, to subject yourself to Rev. Wright's Caucasian-bashing, high-decibel rants week in and week out, you have to like it. It's a simple concept: People usually don't go to a concert if they don't like the band.
Last week, I was listening to Sean Hannity's interview with Jack Kemp. Kemp said people should lay off Obama because "guilty by association" is no way to judge somebody. Hey, if I was on board Bob Dole's disastrous 1996 campaign, I wouldn't want people to believe in "guilt by association" either.
Let's turn the tables for a moment. Would the same defense exist if it became public that John McCain's pastor gave sermons that sounded like David Duke in the throes of "roid rage"? Additionally, I wish some of Obama's defenders were as agitated at people who mocked Mitt Romney's Mormonism.
As more and more Rev. Wright highlights emerge, you just know Barack Obama is sitting back and trying to figure out if he was better off when people were accusing him of being Muslim. My one-word answer is, "probably." Just to be sure, he should check with his uber-powerful billionaire friend, Oprah, at the next Rev. Wright sermon castigating the rich white people who control America.
